On Friday morning at 2am I began getting alerts, texts, and calls that my wedding venue for that day, Brookview Ranch, was evacuated and my bride, bridesmaids, family, and friends were being evacuated from their hotel. Our worst nightmare.
With flames surrounding Brookview Ranch, the wedding was officially cancelled. By 6am, the bride and groom were driving home absolutely devastated that their wedding day was ruined. However something wild happened shortly after, Markie, the bride, and I decided to plan a whole new wedding for the same day. New venue and location, new caterer, new everything. Miraculously the Velencia Hyatt Regency opened their doors and gratuitously helped us put together a wedding within a few hours.
At 4pm, surrounded by family and friends, Markie walked down the aisle and married her best friend Blake!
I was so inspired by the team that rallied together, every vendor showed up to the new location 45 miles away, on time, without hesitation. Every person was dedicated to giving Markie and Blake the wedding they hoped for. My job as a day-of wedding coordinator is to “put out any fires that arise” for my couple and to make sure their day is stress free. Ironically, I couldn’t put out the fires on Markie and Blake’s wedding day, or take away that stress, BUT I was able to give them their (second) best wedding.
